Standing for Constitutional Rights and Tennessee Values

An update on key legislation in Cordell Hull today, including firearms rights, property tax reform, annexation, and protecting citizens from being labeled “non-essential.

Updates

Today is a significant day in Cordell Hull as several important pieces of legislation come before us. I want to take a moment to share what’s on the agenda and why it matters to the people of Tennessee.

First, we are presenting two firearms bills. One bill addresses the “intent to go armed” language, removing what I believe to be unnecessary and unconstitutional wording. The second bill builds on that effort by adding campus carry provisions and strengthening the right of Tennesseans to defend their personal property. These are important steps toward ensuring our laws reflect both constitutional protections and the values we hold dear as a state.

We are also addressing an issue that has been a point of contention for the past three years. We have worked to prevent governors, county executives, and mayors from declaring certain citizens “non-essential” based solely on their lawful occupations. No Tennessean should be sidelined or restricted from earning a living because of executive overreach. This legislation aims to protect the dignity of work and the rights of our people.

In addition, we are bringing forward a property tax reform bill. Many of you have voiced strong support for meaningful property tax reform, and I believe this measure moves us in the right direction. We will see how the discussion unfolds, but I know this is an issue that resonates deeply with families across our district.

Another critical item today is an annexation bill. Annexation decisions have long-term consequences for communities, property owners, and local governance. It is essential that we approach this carefully and responsibly.

As always, I ask for your prayers. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and steady leadership. These are serious matters, and I firmly believe that any success we have comes by God’s grace. My goal is to support legislation that is constitutionally sound, aligned with Tennessee values, and faithful to the principles that have guided our state for generations.

Thank you for staying engaged and informed. I’m honored to serve House District 32 and the great state of Tennessee
